  • Discipleship

Raising our children and educating them could be described as, "a long obedience in the same direction." The longer we homeschool, the more we believe that to be obedient, to stay on the "narrow pathway" that Jesus described, we need the Lord desperately, and we also need each other.

    Encouragement

Encourage means, "to inspire with hope, courage, or confidence; hearten."

Wandering Wednesday: Powerful Prayers

I have too, so I asked God why, and then turned to the scriptures...

I was led to James 5:6.

"Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."

I began to contemplate what this means?

We need one another so we can confess our short comings to each other, without this opportunity we are at a disadvantage. Some of you are thinking I do not want others to know my junk, but if we are not open and honest, then our prayers are not going to have power. It is by telling others that we are set free. Satan would love for you to keep quiet and stay in bondage.

Effectual...don't we all want to have an effect or make a difference?

Fervent...intensity of spirit, feeling, enthusiasm, hot; burning; glowing. God loves it when we are intense and persistent. The Bible tells a story of a widow who kept asking until her request was granted.

Righteous...What makes someone righteous?...From the following scriptures (Genesis 15:6 , Romans 4:3-22, Galatians 3:6, James 2:23 ) we can conclude, when we walk by faith it is credited to us as righteousness.

How do we walk by faith? When we take God at His word, believe it, and do it. When we follow these steps it is credited to us as righteousness. God did this for Abraham. Notice it does not say walk by rules and do everything right. God's gift to us is righteousness when we have faith in Him. We know Abraham made mistakes and was not perfect. He simply believed God, and took him at His word.

Faith..."Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see, and without it we can not please God," as it says in Hebrews.

 Availeth much...prayers are answered!

When I was little and alone I remembered being scared, so scared all I could say was, "Jesus." That simple, one word prayer, changed the atmosphere. I still pray this way at times; other times I pray scriptures. Yet at other times, it is a conversation. God longs for us to communicate with Him about what is going on in our lives; it really is as simple as opening your mouth and talking.
