• Discipleship

Raising our children and educating them could be described as, "a long obedience in the same direction." The longer we homeschool, the more we believe that to be obedient, to stay on the "narrow pathway" that Jesus described, we need the Lord desperately, and we also need each other.

  • Encouragement

Encourage means, "to inspire with hope, courage, or confidence; hearten."

"Therefore encourage one another and build one another up." I Thessalonians 5:11

Wandering Wednesday: In Relationship

Jesus, God, read your Bible, and pray.

Those answers do cover all the major points in our relationship with God.  We cannot isolate any one of these as we try to walk out this relationship.  We have to go through Jesus to have a relationship with God, and this relationship is daily maintained through the Word of God, and Prayer.  It was not until recently, however, that I realized how interconnected Bible reading and Prayer are.  When I read my Bible, I am learning about who God is.  This is like sitting down with a friend and saying, “Tell me about what is going on with you?”  I learn about His character, what He loves, and what He hates. I learn what He is passionate about and about His compassion.  This time is the foundation of our relationship.  And then I respond to Him. I respond with prayer.  In prayer, I connect all that I have discovered about my God with my life.  Certainly, I can go to God without having read my Bible that day, but I have found through God’s Word I sometimes find direction before I even ask and at the end I can simply say “Thank you, God, that was exactly what I needed today”.  God is always speaking to me through His Word, if I take time to listen.  His word is truly “a light unto my path”.

God’s heart also becomes your heart as you spend time in His Word.  He has given us His heart for the orphan and the poor. And because of this, we have felt directed to adopt another child from Ethiopia, where our son Natnael is from. For a year now, we have continued to work toward this goal, not knowing how this would work financially.  Through prayer and God’s Word, we were encouraged that we were going the right direction, but as the first amount of money was coming due, we had less saved than when we started! Also, during this time my husband’s job was not doing well, but we did not feel the time was right for him to leave.  He was able to be a witness at his job through this difficult time and after a year of job uncertainty he found another job and gave his notice.  Two days later the company for which he worked, offered many people a generous package to voluntarily leave.  And then, to our surprise, they sent him this same offer, even though he had already resigned.  We thought they must have made a mistake, but after a few phone calls, the odd truth remained: they were offering him just enough money to completely pay for an international adoption for leaving a company he had already resigned from! This is an amazing gift from God that we would not have seen if we had not been directed and encouraged through God’s Word and then given it to God in prayer.  Jesus, God, read your Bible and Pray: the simple truth that will change you and your circumstances!

Cecilia Price came to know Jesus when she was five years old and has been learning, growing and following Him ever since.  She is now on this journey with her husband of 18 years and her five children, 3 who attend various schools in the community and 2 who attend Pathway Christian Cooperative.
