  • Discipleship

Raising our children and educating them could be described as, "a long obedience in the same direction." The longer we homeschool, the more we believe that to be obedient, to stay on the "narrow pathway" that Jesus described, we need the Lord desperately, and we also need each other.

    Encouragement

Encourage means, "to inspire with hope, courage, or confidence; hearten."

"Therefore encourage one another and build one another up." I Thessalonians 5:11

Wandering Wednesday: Using Your Gifts

I believe we each have gifts God has blessed us with. God created each and every one of us different for a reason. Can you imagine if we were all alike?

It wasn't clear until later in life when I asked God to use me and show me what his purpose was for me, that he showed me it was the gift of service.

I have always loved to build, decorate, and help others. I have worked in customer service and sales, and I knew I loved people and the interesting stories they tell. I truly cared how they were doing. I wanted to go into nursing, but at the first sight of blood, I felt like I was going to pass out, so that was not going to work!

A friend sent me an email this past week knowing that my family and I had been going through many tough circumstances. The email said, "When you feel like you are drowning, remember your Lifeguard walks on water!" I am so thankful for the Godly women and men in my families' life who are using their gifts. My friend's gift of encouragement made my day! You see it takes us all.

I have an uncle who cannot read music but can play a piano like Jerry Lee Lewis. He has been in many popular gospel groups. If he were to audition and be given a piece of music to read, he most likely would not be given a chance. Since he plays for the Lord, and he is using his gift, he has been blessed by many great opportunities. What a gift!

My mom, her sisters, a piano player, and a preacher, went to the nursing home each week while my grandmother was there. They would wheel the people to the fellowship hall and have service with the patients in the nursing home. What a gift!

I know if I am in His will I can do all things through Christ! When I use the talents he has given me, I can feel his guiding, and it is the best feeling in the world! It is amazing what you see happen in your life and those around you.

So, when you question what you have to offer, ask God to guide you and show you what He wants for you, and ask him to use you for His Glory. I promise He will make your path straight and will reveal your unique gift.

1 Corinthians 12: 7-11 - "A spiritual gift is given to each of us, so we can help each other."

1 Peter 4:10 - "God's gifts of grace come in many forms. Each of you has received a gift in order to serve others. You should use it faithfully. "

Teresa Sherrill has been homeschooling for 9 years. She feels that she is using the gifts God has given her by encouraging other homeschool moms.  She believes that we don't need to fret!  If we just pray to the God who directs our paths, He will show us the way to go!
