History

Mystery of History Volume 2: Early Church and Middle Ages

Linda Hobar, the author of this world history series, states in the beginning of this book, "I believe history is the story of God revealing Himself to mankind and that He did it most perfectly through the person of Jesus Christthe "mystery" is the gospel of Jesus Christ." What a refreshing and different view from most world history curriculums! Those looking for a world history program that aligns the stories of mankind with the living story of God will truly appreciate this Bible-centered approach to the history of the world. Picking up where Volume 1 leaves off, this volume begins with the Pentecost and the first followers of Jesus (including Paul) around 29 A.D and chronologically continues through the early church and moves into the Middle Ages, covering the years through about 1456 A.D.

Writing & Grammar

Institute for Excellence in Writing: All Things Fun and Fascinating

What do crows, peacocks, and bird nest soup have in common? They're just a few of the fun and fascinating things that your student will WANT to write about. Within its 24 lessons (a year's worth) it covers TWSS Units 1-7 (taking notes, summarizing narrative stories, writing from pictures, mini-research report, and creative writing) and several stylististic elements. Teacher prep is non-existent you only need to read through the lessons with your student and be prepared to be "wowed" by their writing (and, of course, do a little evaluating). Although your student will want to make a final portfolio copy of their writing assignments, all the preliminary work outlines, brainstorming charts, along with checklists are provided in the consumable, 159-page spiral-bound text. Appendices include: banned words & prepositions and substitutes, -ly words. The purchaser may download an optional accompanying teacher e-book from the publisher's website

Easy Grammar Level 3 or 4

Students learn grammar faster and easier when they're actually writing and editing texts; this hands-on approach to grammar is just one of the reasons why Easy Grammar is so successful. Utilizing the prepositional approach, students memorize prepositions to then eliminate from sentences, making finding the noun and verb much easier. Concepts are reviewed and introduced throughout the school year; this, accompanied with reviews helps to ensure engaged, mastery learning for all elementary aged children.

Apologia Exploring Creation with Zoology 2: Swimming Creatures

From the rivers and streams to the mighty ocean, God filled the Earth's waters with animals great and small. Upon His word, enormous whales sprung into being. At His command, billions of plankton leapt to life. On that day, millions of creatures like the strapping sea turtles, the skulking sharks, the delightful dolphins, and the soaring squid gladly joined their fellow sea animals. Strong swimming bass traveled the rivers past the creeping crayfish and the sluggardly snails. How joyously crammed with excitement was the fifth day of Earth's existence!

Apologia's second zoology book will take you and your family on an exploration into the wonders of the swimming creatures made on the fifth day of creation. You'll begin with a big splash from the whales and dolphins, then spy on seals and meet manatees before swimming with the sea turtles, snakes, and salamanders. You'll even peek in on the primeval plesiosaurus and its pals.

Following your frolic with fish and sharks, you'll uncover the world of crabby crustaceans, sea snails, clams, and their soft bodied friends like the octopus, squid, and nautilus. You'll consort with corals, find flowers that devour plankton, see stars and feathers that walk, leap and roll, and discover dollars that disappear in the sand and sponges that clean more than you might think.

From the microscopic to massive, no stone is left unturned in your student's passage through the waters of the world. The creatures your student studies will come to life as your student creates replicas of them and adds them to his "Ocean Box - a miniature hand-crafted aquarium. As always, each lesson ends with an experiment or project reinforcing the scientific method and the concepts studied. Among other experiments and projects, your student will try on blubber, investigate a shark's ability to sense electrical currents, explore how whales can hear sounds that come from far away, and learn through experimentation which creatures make the best fossils. No matter how near or far you live from the ocean, you and your students will wonder at God's designs in the amazing aquatic animals He formed on the fifth day.

Apologia Exploring Creation with Zoology 2: Swimming Creatures Junior Notebook

The Zoology 2 Junior Notebooking Journal is one of the newest in the product line of the Young Explorer Series. A companion to Exploring Creation with Zoology 2, this junior journal is much like the regular Zoology 2 Notebooking Journal but is designed for younger students or those with limited writing skills. All the lines in the junior journal are primary writing lines (a dashed line between two solid lines), and there are far fewer than in the regular journal. The Zoology 2 Junior Notebooking Journal is perfect for:

  • Younger students that have not yet mastered handwriting

  • Older students that are delayed in handwriting mastery

  • Older students with learning disabilities

  • Students that are new to written narration

Each lesson in the junior journal begins with two fun coloring pages for the student to color while he listens to the reading of the text. These pages provide opportunities for active learning while reinforcing the lesson's content. Following are pages with templates designed to encourage creative expression and written narration. The student can illustrate what he's learned and write a sentence or two about the topic. Next, the student is given the opportunity to work with and learn key vocabulary words presented in the text. Included are puzzle piece cut out and match vocabulary activities, partially filled in crosswords, vocabulary stories, animal identification activities and more. These learning activities are not only fun, but they increase the student's retention of both the important terms and the subject matter presented in the lessons. In addition to vocabulary work, the student has the opportunity to practice his handwriting and is given the choice between print copywork, cursive copywork or both. The Scriptures used for copywork are shorter than in the regular notebooking journal, and the font is larger. Templates to complete all the notebooking assignments, project record keeping, Scientific Speculation Sheets and, of course, the same beautiful, full-colored miniature books found in the original notebooking journal are included in the junior journal. There are some higher level activities missing from the junior journal, but they are replaced with cut and paste, high interest learning activities that bring the subject to life.
